ALL ABOUT SCOTT B HARRIS

SCOTT B HARRIS IS A keynote speaker, author AND neURODIVERSITY & RESILIENCE EXPERT.

In 2008, a motorbike accident rewired Scott’s brain, changing his life and leaving lifelong cognitive differences and physical challenges.

Scott lives with the long-term effects of a traumatic brain injury. Damage to his frontal lobe has altered his executive functioning — decision-making, planning, and emotional regulation — while also causing semi-paralysis and challenges with balance and stability. Multiple skull fractures required full facial reconstruction, leaving ten titanium plates holding his face together.

Alongside ongoing double vision, Scott also sustained a brachial plexus injury in his right arm, with three severed nerves. These lifelong differences shape his lived experience and fuel his mission to build resilience and advocate for neurodiversity.

"Luckily I have two arms and legs.

Unfortunately I don’t have two brains, so I have to make my damaged one work really hard."

"Luckily I have two arms and legs.

Unfortunately I don’t have two brains, so I have to make my damaged one work really hard."

After the accident, rehab became Scott’s full-time job, rebuilding his body and adapting to a different brain.

The intense physical and mental rehabilitation, which he continues to this day, is the reason he is still alive and has achieved so much. Scott has discovered that setting and achieving goals, both mental and physical, keeps you looking forward rather than backwards and fills his life with purpose.

"It took me a number of years to realise that my life would never be the same as it was before the accident."

Despite years of physical and cognitive challenges, Scott set himself the goal of travelling the world to support others facing adversity. While Scott was abroad for 18 months, he achieved this with nothing more than a backpack and a camera hung over his shoulder.

Since his brain injury in 2008, Scott has lived with a wide range of long-term effects, yet continues to persevere and achieve his goals. This lived experience places him in a unique position to demonstrate how resilience, the right mindset, and embracing neurodiversity can empower people to achieve more than they thought possible.

The valuable lessons Scott has learned on this journey aren’t just for others living with an injured brain, but are universal principles to live by. Scott’s next challenge is inspiring you to achieve your own personal goals in life, no matter what hurdles, setbacks, or differences you have to overcome.

Scott inspires students, educators, and organisations through keynote speaking, facilitates workshops and his school programs
